Dead Red Heart: Australian Vampire Tales
Edited by Russell B. Farr. Ticonderoga (www.ticonderogapublications.com), $24.99 trade paper (454p) ISBN 978-0-9807813-1-1
Ticonderoga publisher Farr (Fantastic Wonder Stories) collects 32 stories of horror and dark fantasy that acknowledge the undead as ineradicable members of Australian society. The best selections twine the vampire incursion with Australian history, as in Shona Husk's "Mutiny on the Scarborough," whose vampire narrator reveals himself to have been one of the earliest convicts transported Down Under. Angela Slatter's "Sun Falls," about a luckless vamp dependent upon his smart-aleck human slave, and "The Tide," a multiauthored story that charts vampires' rise from second-class citizen to the nation's ruling elite, mix horror with humor. Unfortunately, most of the more serious stories aren't particularly innovative, but there are still many solid tales to satisfy vampire fans. (May)

More Scary Kisses
Edited by Liz Grzyb. Ticonderoga (www.ticonderogapublications.com), $15.99 trade paper (260p) ISBN 978-0-9807813-2-8
Talent shines in this beguiling collection of 17 paranormal romance stories from Down Under, many of which are more haunting and humorous than scary. Mr. Darcy of Pride and Prejudice takes a turn as a barbaric demon slayer in Fraser Sherman's "The Sword of Darcy," while a sugar-crazed cherub does his best to reunite two lovers in Nicole R. Murphy's "The Protector's Last Mission." A telepathic tentacle monster reluctantly wedded to a human woman finds a way toward happy-ever-after in Liz Coley's "Marriage of Convenience." On the creepier end, both Felicity Dowker's "Berries and Incense" and Kirstyn McDermott's "Frostbitten" will leave readers with chills. Martin Livings and Talie Helene close the anthology with "The Last Gig of Jimmy Rucker," a brilliantly hypnotizing and heartwarming tale. Readers will be delighted by this introduction to some of Australia's best paranormal romance writers.
We're pleased to announce the table of contents for More Scary Kisses, edited by Liz Grzyb.

Publishers Weekly reviews Justina Robson's forthcoming collection, Heliotrope. The bit we especially love is
"fans of Robson's novels will be gratified to see her worlds expanded here."
The full review is below. Note that page count is based on an uncorrected galley, and the full page count is expected to be around 348 pages.
Heliotrope will be available world-wide in May and is available for pre-order at indiebooksonline.
Heliotrope Justina Robson, Ticonderoga (www.ticonderogapublications.com), US$22.99 (312p) ISBN 978-0-9807813-4-2
Robson's uneven first collection includes 15 reprints, published from 1994 onwards, and one story original to this volume. In the heartbreaking "Cracklegackle," which connects to her novel Natural History, an unevolved father strikes a deal with a Forged scout to solve the mysterious disappearance of his daughter from Mars. "Erie Lackawanna Song," linked to Mappa Mundi, reveals early plans for MM6, a virus enabling the government to control people's minds, while in "The Girl Hero's Mirror Says He's Not the One" a girl changes significantly after MM infection. "A Dream of Mars" recalls Frankenstein when a hunter is hired to kill a man-made creature living in the forests of the red planet. Some pieces feature obvious twists and others seem to end before the real story even has a chance to begin, but fans of Robson's novels will be gratified to see her worlds expanded here. (May)
Ticonderoga Publications is excited to announce a forthcoming collection of stories by the Arthur C Clarke Award finalist and bestselling UK writer Justina Robson.
The collection is titled Heliotrope and scheduled for publication in 2011.
Justina Robson has published eight novels, including four books in the Quantum Gravity series. The fifth book, Down to the Bone, will be published in early 2011. She has been nominated for the Arthur C Clarke Award twice, the Philip K Dick Award three times, the British SF Association Award twice and the John W Campbell Award.
Heliotrope is her first story collection.
Robson's writing has been noted for sharply-drawn characters, and an intelligent and deeply thought-out approach to the tropes of the genre. M John Harrison has described her as "one of the very best of the new British hard SF writers".
While Robson is noted as a novelist, she is also a Clarion West Workshop graduate and has been publishing short stories since 1994.
Justina Robson writes stories that are both emotionally moving and full of ideas,” Ticonderoga Editor Russell B Farr said.
“Her stories have the rare quality of simultaneously appealing to the head and to the heart,” he said.
Heliotrope collects sixteen stories, including the first print publication of "Dream of Mars", and the never before published title novella "Heliotrope".
“The collection has something for everyone, there is real variety in this book,” Russell added.
Heliotrope was sold via John Berlyne of the Zeno Agency.
Heliotrope will be published in April 2011 to coincide with Justina Robson's Guest of Honour appearance at Australia's 50th National Science Fiction Convention, to be held in Perth. The collection will be available in limited edition hardcover and trade editions.
Harry Markov writes a stunning review of Kaaron Warren's Dead Sea Fruit over at Pornokitsch:
her collection Dead Sea Fruit, even as delightful as it was, challenges me as a reviewer, mainly because of Warren’s unwillingness to settle for a comfort zone. I voice this as a compliment, rather than a complaint, since all the stories allow the reader to discover Warren, a writer who is always in a state of flux and in search of the next story, wherever it might be hiding.
You can read the rest of the review here. (While we can't vouch for anything else at this site, this review is definitely safe for all ages to read.)
The novel is an amazing tale, winning both the Aurealis Award for Fantasy Novel and the Aurealis Award for Horror Novel when first published in 1997.
Australian musician Lisa Sheehan has got life sussed, but then, one-by-one, her fans start to turn up dead, their bodies hideously mutilated, and Lisa is haunted by memories that are not her own. Can these 20th-century murders be linked to events in Stuart England?
