Dead Red Heart open for submissions

Dead Red Heart edited by Russell B Farr

We all know about vampires, drinking blood, banished by garlic, killed by sunlight or a stake through the heart.

We all know about Australia, the land down under: sand, beaches and lots of sunlight. That splash of red you see could be a world renowned shiraz, or tomato sauce on a meat pie.

Dead Red Heart will be an anthology of Australian vampire stories, showing vampires in Australian settings. It could be the beach, the outback, suburbs or cities. It could be historical or contemporary.

The editor is looking for stories that capture the essence of vampirism and the essence of Australia.

Any stories involving cultural borrowing from Australian indigenous cultures should be respectful of the beliefs of Australia’s traditional owners.

Sara Douglass Collection Announced

Ticonderoga Publications is far more than totally chuffed to announce a forthcoming collection of stories by premiere Australian Fantasy writer Sara Douglass.

The substantial collection, scheduled for publication next year, is tentatively titled The Hall of Lost Footsteps.

Sara Douglass is the bestselling, award-winning writer of the Crucible, Troy Game, Darkglass Mountain and Wayfarer Redemption series.

Her short fiction has appeared in Eidolon, Dreaming Again and the World Fantasy Award winning Dreaming Down Under.

“Sara Douglass has written a number of wonderful powerful stories in addition to her novels,” Ticonderoga Editor Russell B. Farr said.

“It will be great to be able to get all of these gems, 15 years’ worth, in one volume,” he said.

The Hall of Lost Footsteps will also feature a number of Wayfarer Redemption related tales, appearing in print for the first time.

“We’re expecting to include a story or two that will be totally original to the collection,” Russell added.

The Hall of Lost Footsteps is scheduled for publication in 2011, in limited edition hardcover and trade editions.

Lost a page or two?

It has come to our attention that recent copies of Belong and Scary Kisses we’ve shipped may suffer from pages falling out.

Firstly, we’d like to apologise. We’ve never had this problem before. We hope never to have this problem again — but that’s our problem, not yours. If you have received a copy, and have found it is prone to losing pages, please  let us know and we will replace this, free of charge.

Secondly, we’d like to assure you that we’re working with the printer to ensure that this never happens again. We’ve used this printer for 2 years, and this is the first problem we’ve had to date. If we can’t resolve this with the printer, we’ll change printers to one who can produce books to our required standard, so that this may never happen again.

We believe that you should be able to trust a TP book not to fall apart. We apologise again if this has happened to you. Please let us know and we’ll replace the book.

We’ve lost our list

in our recent computer upgrade, it looks like our mailing list has been eaten. If  you were on the list, don’t worry, the data is safe. It’s just buried deep in our backup system – so deep that right now it’s easier to start again from scratch.

So if you want to be kept informed of all the latest news from TP, please send an email to news@ticonderogapublications.com with the word “Subscribe” in the subject line.

This edition will run to 460 pages, costs $85 and will be limited to 100 copies, all signed by Kim Wilkins.

We expect to have these ready to ship in early May. Over the next few days we’ll reveal a little of the internal design here, as we intend this to be a beautiful and very collectible book.

This will be a title you’ll be proud to show off.

Belong vs Scary Kisses

SwanCon is over and the tallies are in.

I’m pleased to announce that, while Belong put up a good fight, Scary Kisses outsold it by half a dozen copies. Both titles have done very well in sales to date, almost enough for us to pay the writers without selling a kidney.

There will be a Scary Kisses sequel in the next 18 months, so start thinking of ideas for paranormal romance stories.

Both books are available at www.indiebooksonline.com where we would be more than happy to send you copies.
